Skeuomorphic Design

Skeuomorphic design is a type of design in which the design of an object is derived from another object while retaining ornamental design cues. The goal of skeuomorphic design is to facilitate acclimation and understanding of the original object. This method is commonly used in product design and visual communication.

Skeuomorphic design is used to create a realistic look and feel for a product. For example, a note-taking app may use skeuomorphic design by mimicking the look and feel of a yellow legal pad. Other examples include Apple's Stickies app for Macbooks, which mimics the look and feel of sticky notes. Opus One, a calendar app, also uses skeuomorphic design elements.
